Walima card wording: Urdu, Roman Urdu and English samples

The Walima is the only function that belongs completely to the groom's family. It comes after the Nikkah and the Rukhsati, it is a Sunnah, and its card is usually the most formal one of the week. That is also why it is the one people copy wording for most often.

What a Walima card needs to say

• That it is the Dawat-e-Walima, not a general reception.
• Who is hosting: the groom's parents, or the groom himself.
• The couple's names, with the bride's father's name.
• Date, time and venue.
• A closing and a contact number.

Formal Urdu wording

دعوتِ ولیمہ — محترم و مکرم! السلام علیکم۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کے فضل و کرم سے ہمارے صاحبزادے [دولہا کا نام] کی شادی خانہ آبادی [دلہن کا نام] بنت [والد کا نام] کے ساتھ بخیر و خوبی انجام پائی ہے۔ اس خوشی کے موقع پر دعوتِ ولیمہ میں آپ کی شرکت ہمارے لیے باعثِ عزت و مسرت ہوگی۔

Closing: المنتظر: [والد کا نام] و اہلِ خانہ

Roman Urdu wording

Dawat-e-Walima. Allah ke fazl se hamare betay [naam] ki shadi [naam] binte [walid ka naam] ke saath bakhair-o-khoobi anjaam payi. Is khushi mein Walima ki dawat mein aap ki shirkat hamare liye baais-e-izzat hogi.

English wording

Mr. and Mrs. [Name] request the honour of your presence at the Walima reception of their son [Name] with [Name], daughter of Mr. and Mrs. [Name], on [day, date] at [time], [venue].

Short version for WhatsApp

Most people will read the message before they open the card, so keep the message itself to two lines and let the card carry the details: 'Assalam-o-Alaikum, you are warmly invited to the Walima of [Name] and [Name] on Sunday 12 March. When the Walima is small

More families now hold a small Walima dinner at home or in a restaurant. The wording can be warmer and shorter: 'We are keeping the Walima small, and we would love you to be one of the few.' Walima on the same card as the Baraat

If the same guests are coming to both, one card with two function blocks is easier than two cards. Guests invited only to the Walima can get a private link that shows the Walima alone. That way you do not need a second design, and nobody sees a function they were not asked to.
